    By the end of the War in Europe he had been promoted to Podporucznik in the 12PULP, after the end of the war he stayed in Italy where he died on the 30th May 2019 in Rome.

    Photograph taken in the Middle East in 1943

    Sierz. Czesław Jan Zenon Czartowski, Born : 15th August 1897, Army Number : 1897-35-III, Unit : 327 Skladnica Zaopatrywania, (327th Supply Depot), Monte Cassino Cross Numbered : 45466.

    He left the UK for Canada with his wife in 1953

    Czesław Czartowski survived the war and died on the 20th June 1968 and was buried in Wainfleet, Ontario

    Whilst surfing the other day I came across the following photograph of 12 Soldiers from the 3DSK, so what, I hear you ask, the Officers and Other Ranks are all listed by name :

    The Soldiers are listed as follows :

    Por. Adam Koczyrkiewicz, Commanding Officer 4th Company, Army Number : 1919-162-III, Monte Cassino Cross Numbered : 1501 (awarded when a Ppor.) also awarded the Virtuti Militari, Legitymacja Numbered : 10885, also awarded the Cross of Valour with 2 Bars.

    After the end of the War in Europe, he came to the UK with his Battalion and in 1948 left to emigrate to Australia.

    Ppor. Franciszek Niedziółka, Born 11th October 1914, Army Number : 1914-82-III, Monte Cassino Cross Numbered : 1652, also awarded the Virtuti Militari, Legitymacja Numbered : 11395, also awarded the Cross of Valour with 2 Bars.

    After the end of the War in Europe, he also came to the UK with his Unit and emigrated to Canada, where he died on the 14th July 1980 in Branford, Ontario.

    St.Sierz. Jan Sienko, Born 22nd October 1904, Army Number : 1904-161-III, Monte Cassino Cross Numbered : 12618, also awarded the Cross of Valour with 2 Bars, he came to the UK after the end of the War in Europe and settled down to life in a Foreign land, he died on the 4th December 1984 in Loughborough, Leicestershire, Fathers Name : Stanisław.

    St.Sierz. Jan Boniecki, Army Number : 1906-161-III, Monte Cassino Cross Numbered : 2964, Also awarded the Cross of Valour.

    Plut. Mieczysław Owczarek, Born on the 25th September 1910, Army Number : 1910-82-III, Monte Cassino Cross Numbered : 9797, (awarded when a Kapral), also awarded the Cross of Valour, Fathers Name : Stanisław

    Ppor. Jerzy Rogaczewski, No Records found for this Officer.

    Kapral Andrzej Majewski, Army Number : 1915-4-III, Monte Cassino Cross Numbered : 9095, (awarded when a St.Strz.) also awarded the Cross of Valour.

    St.Strz. Jan Suchodolski, Army Number : 1915-566-III, 3BSK.

    St.Strz. Antoni Ledwójcik, Born on the 11th June 1916, Army Number : 1916-17-III, Monte Cassino Cross Numbered : 7991, 3BSK, Fathers Name : Franciszek.

    Strz. Bolesław Fryderyk Domrzalski, Born on the 9th July 1906, Army Number : 1906-179-III, 3BSK, after the end of the war in Europe, he came to the UK with his Battalion and then emigrated to the USA. Where he died on the 19th July 1975 in Camden, New Jersey, Fathers Name : Tomasz

    Strz. Jan Auda, Born on the 9th July 1913, Army Number : 1913-94-III, 3BSK, Fathers Name : Józef.

    Strz. Bolesław Jeliński, Born on the 8th June 1926, Army Number : 1926-274-III, 3BSK, after the end of the war in Europe, he came to the UK with his Battlion and then emigrated to Tasmania, where he died on the 4th February 1985.

    I have also numbered the individuals in the Photograph and have identified the following :

    Number : 4 = Por. Adam Koczyrkiewicz

    Number : 6 = Kapral Andrzej Majewski

    Number : 9 = Plut. Mieczysław Owczarek

    Number : 11 = Strz. Antoni Ledwójcik

    Number : 3 & 5 are either St.Sierz Jan Sienko or St.Sierz. Jan Boniecki.

    Only a guess but 7 must surely be Strz. Bolesław Jeliński - born 1926 and the youngest man in the group. I wonder what year the photo was taken?

    Rank : Strz. (Rifleman)

    Surname : Michalik

    Christian Name : Stanisław

    Date of Birth : 27th June 1919

    Army Number : 1919-23-III

    Unit : 6BSK

    By the end of the war he had also been awarded the KW (Cross of Valour)

    Stanisław Michalik died in Camden, London in 1979.
