I've enjoyed reading this thread. I have an example without the ribbon eyelet looping mechanism that is marked 49,359. Would it be possible to know the recipient? It would seem this was at the very end of issue?

    Hello Scotty,

May I be the first to welcome you to the Forum and thank you for your post, there were 50,000 Crosses made for the 2nd Corps but only 48,840 something were actually awarded, the remainder including your example where stored in the Polish Embassy in Exile in London until the early 1970's.

These were then sold off to Medal dealers in London, when I first went into Spink and Son when they were situated on King Street in St. James's when asked where their Polish Items were located I was told in the drawers, there was a drawer half full of Monte Cassino Cross's. The rest of the drawers were full of the Order of Polonia Restituta Cross of Merits and Virtuti Militari's which Spinks produced for the Polish Government in Exile, these crosses are now found all over the world.

Although your Cross was not awarded Scotty it is still one of the original 50,000 produced for the 2nd Corps.

I hope that the above information is of some use and help to you, if you have any other questions please post them and I will do my best to answer them for you.

Once again Welcome to the Forum.

    Best wishes
