By the end of the war in Europe he had been promoted to Podporucznik (2nd Lieutenant) and awarded both the Cross of Valour and the Silver Cross of Merit with Swords, he was severely wounded in the Battle for Bologna on the 13th April 1945 and ended the war in the Polish Hospital recovering from his wounds.
He also received the Army Medal and British 1939-1945 Star, Italy Star and the 1939-1945 Defence Medal.
