Another Face of a recipient of the Monte Cassino Cross :
Czesław Łuc photographed in England in 1947, in the photograph clearly seen are the ribbons for the Cross of Valour (KW), Army Medal (MW), Monte Cassino Cross (KPMC), 1939-1945 Star, Italy Star. He is also wearing the 2nd Armoured Division Badge and the Regimental and Collar Badges of the 4th Armoured Regiment (P4Panc.)
When awarded the Monte Cassino Cross his details were as follows :

In the aftermath of the Battle for Monte Cassino the 4th Armoured Regiment had to replace their losses and Czesław Łuc was transferred to the 4th Armoured Regiment and served in the 3rd Squadron with the rank of Pancerny (Tankman) he was also awarded the Cross of Valour which is listed in the Regimental History.
After the end of the war in Europe he came to the UK with his regiment and after being demobbed from the Polish Resettlement Corps he settled down to civilian life, he was twice married firstly in the 1950's and secondly in the 1980's.
Czesław Łuc died in Sheffield, Yorkshire in 2006.
How many 18 or 19 year olds have gone through what Czesław Łuc went through during the 2nd World War, prior to the start of the War along with his Sister and Parents lived in Pińsk, his Father Maciej served has an NCO in the 84PP, his wife Anna looked after their children Stanisława who was born in 1923 and was a Kapral in the Berling Army during WW2.

He survived the war in Europe, at some point after the Battle at Monte Cassino he was transferred to the 2BSK (2nd Carpathian Rifle Battalion) and ended the war as a St. Strz. (Lance Corporal) and received the Honorary decoration for wounds, Cross of Valour (KW), Army Medal (MW), Monte Cassino Cross Numbered : 4719 and the British 1939-1945 Star, Italy Star, 1939-1945 Defence Medal and the 1939-1945 War Medal.
Mieczysław Gigiera died on the 4th March 2007.

After Monte Cassino, due to the shortage in some units he was transferred to the 5BCKM (5th Heavy Machine Gun Battalion) on the 7th June 1944, just over 4 weeks later in the battle near Palazzo Del Cannone his war came to an end when he was severely wounded in the Face on the 8th July 1944.
For his service in the 2nd Polish Corps he was awarded the Honourary Decoration for Wounds, Army Medal, Monte Cassino Cross Numbered : 35881 and the British 1939-1945 Star, Italy Star, 1939-1945 Defence Medal and the 1939-1945 War Medal.
Nine days later his best friend Karol Sucharski who was also serving in the 5BCKM was killed in action and was buried in the Polish War Cemetery at Loreto.
