Default Numbering algorithm of the Monte Cassino Cross

    Hi,

Do you know any numbering algorithm of the Monte Cassino Cross?

I have heard that particular units were assigned a range of numbers and among this unit range the lowest numbers were awarded to officers and the next for lower ranks. Is it true???

What about the lowest numbers ??? It is well known that numbers 1-13 were reserved for Senior Commanders, but what about the numbers over 13 dedicated to the HQ Staff ??? Can you provide for example the names of recipients of numbers 14-30 or more ???

Thank you in advance and best regards,

    Peter

It seem be different patterns in different units.

In 3 DSK it is generally KIA at Monte Cassino, Officers by rank/seniority then alphabetical, Other Ranks just alphabetical.

But in some other units the Other Ranks are also by rank first and then alphabetical within each rank - e.g. Commando.

And the alphabetical list is not always 100% followed.

    Hello Peter,

If you use google to search for Monte Cassino Cross, Wikipedia has the list that I provided to Dr. Mark Ostrowski, and has Kevin stated units had different ways of listing Recipients.

    Thank you very much.

So, in individual small units like regiment or company the numbering system was different and not systematical.

What about the lowest numbers for the HQ Staff ?

If numbers 1-13 have been assigned to Senior Commanders, are the following numbers also for senior officers and then for other ranks? Do you know who got the Monte Cassino Cross numbered 14, 15, 16, etc.???

    Regards,
    Peter

    Hello Peter,

Many thanks for your post, I am the only member with the full list of Recipients of the Monte Cassino Cross, unfortunately I can not divulge that information because I gave ownership of the List to the PISM in London a couple of years ago.

The list I compiled where Numerical and Alphabetical.

    Dear Andrzej,

Thank you and I am very sorry for my inappropriate question. I didn't know I was asking for something top secret. I have seen that you give information about the numbers of the Monte Casino Cross to many people, myself included, so I asked out of curiosity about this because nothing is written about it.

    Thank you and best regards.

    Hello Peter,

Many thanks for your reply, you are correct in stating that I have helped numerous Forum Members and many others over the years, the list is covered by copyright that should explain everything to you, it is not as you put it top secret.

But there has been an awful lot of people who want the list, no doubt to make money from it.

If you wish to see the list, then I would advise a visit to the PISM in London after this pandemic is over, then you can purchase copies of the pages the cost of which is stated on the PISM website, during this period the PISM is closed until further notice.

    Best wishes

    Andrzej

    Hello once again,

I was misunderstood - I did not want the list of the recipients or even a fragment of it, but only asked if within the Monte Cassino Crosses for HQ Staff the ones with the lowest numbers were for high-rank officers. Alternatively I asked for some examples of these low numbers to support this hypothesis.

    Regards,
    Peter
