    Hello Zbigniew,

Many thanks for your post, Rotmistrz was correct in naming the recipient, in the Regimental History he is listed as a Kapral Pchr. serving in the 1st Squadron.

He was awarded the Krzyż Walecznych (Cross of Valor), Medal Wojska (Army Medal) and the Monte Cassino Cross Numbered : 29253 (Awarded when a St.Panc.).

Born in 1916, Army Number : (also found on His ID Tags) : 1916-156-III.

    Best wishes

Sorry, I do not know the exact number, although one can speculate on a quantity based on the Officers Legion in the Middle East being disbanded at the end of 1941, and in Feb of that year the unit consisted of 227 officers. Definitely a scarce badge.

    Tony

Here is the Border Protection Corps Badge - Odznaka Korpus Ochrony Pogranicza (KOP), it is one of my favorite badges.

This unit was responsible for the protection of the Polish eastern border; the active duty KOP soldiers were mobilized on 1 SEP 1939 and sent West with their heavy equipment to fight the Germans. The Polish reservists who filled in at the border posts had to face 600,000+ Soviets invading from the East on 17 SEP 1939, with only small arms to defend themselves - arguably the biggest mismatch of the war.
