    Hi Dastier,

Yes Polish Fighter Squadrons were involved in the Greatest Air Battle, The Dieppe Raid, 19th August 1942.

Polish Spitfire Squadrons involved in the Raid:

302 Sqdn O/C Sqdn Ldr Julian Kowalski

303 Sqdn O/C Sqdn Ldr Jan Zumbach

306 Sqdn O/C Sqdn Ldr Tadeusz Czerwinski

308 Sqdn O/C Sqdn Ldr Walerian Zak

317 Sqdn O/C Sqdn Ldr Stanislaw Skalski.

I hope that the above answers your question.

p.s. O/C = Officer Comanding the Squadron, the Polish Squadrons flew 4 missions each that fateful day.

Thanks andrzejku98. I don't know anything about the air battles.

Canadians history is focused on the land battles as that's where the majority of Canadians were involved. In media coverage of this year's anniversary a former Canadian pilot lamented that he was forbidden from attacking the German guns shooting up the Canadians on the beach.

Care to shed more light on the air battle and the Polish contribution? Do you know what the other insignia on the plaque represents?
