This is a nice worn example. The guy came close to losing the clasp!
The tab is marked 1939. I have been unable to make out the rest of it, later when I get the chance I will try the talcum powder trick.

I agree with Markus on the tab but IMO it has been sewn on in the WW2 era, stitching and wear to the tab looks period

Here are a few pictures of the tab. It is dated 1939, as stated. The tab appears to have been in place for a very long time, and I do not see any evidence of restitching, or other tampering. I believe the tab to be original to the buckle. It has a very good appearance in hand, and compares to other tabbed buckles that I have.
However, as always, that is my opinion, and I could be wrong. Thanks for looking!
Could Hans Romer have supplied the leather tabs to GHO. I have seen frogs, belts and Ammo pouches with the same Romer stamp. Does anyone have A GHO stamped tab?
Well, when I say original to the buckle, I suppose I should say that I believe it to be period. Whether put on by the manufacturer or if the officer had it put on for himself, who knows? At any rate, it is a nice little buckle to add to my small collection of buckles.
Hello,
in my opinion the tab is supplemented but in period ore post war , who can it say ?
The buckel with the tab looks consistent .

Markus
