    Hello everyone.

I have not posted any items from the collection in a while because my camera has stopped working and this is still the case. However, I thought I would make a post using the sellers photos. This time we have an M1 Carbine pouch which has been modified post war by the French. The modification consists of a metal 'D' ring that is attached using a piece of leather and two rivets. Interestingly on this example the 'lift the dot' has been reinforced by the addition of a heavily stitched piece of material.

This modification was done so the suspenders could be attached straight to the pouch instead of the belt.

From time to time you will encounter an M1 carbine pouch with two small holes to the top rear, this means that it was once one of these 'French modified' examples and someone has removed the leather and 'D' ring to turn it back to its original configuration. Below is an example from the collection.

Nice example, I picked up a few of these as well over the years. Usually the French mod is removed to return them to US WW2-configuration as they sell for a bit more then. It seems the supply has dwindled over the years though, and now they are less easier to find.

    Hi there.

Yeah, the French modified examples are cheaper for sure. I managed to pick up one here in the UK, then have had to source the other examples in the collection from mainland Europe. I actually bought a reproduction of the French modified M1 pouch in od7 from Soldier of fortune a while ago, but it has been nice to add some original examples to the collection.

    3 (from post #1) -

Along with the reinforcement of the 'lift the dot' and the adding of the 'D' ring, it looks like the whole rear panel has been replaced too.

It is difficult to see because my camera is not the best, but example #2 is made by the same company as yours. Mine have definitely had a hard life, but I am waiting on a mint example made by R. B. Hanson MFG. Co to arrive. I will update the thread with photos when it gets here.

If anyone is planning on adding one of these to their collection, just be aware that they are starting to be reproduced.
