New book on SADF Border War Militaria
I am pleased to announce that the Kickstarter for my latest book, “Nutria Brown, South African Defence Force Uniforms and Equipment, 1970-1994” is now live. The Kickstarter is the only way you can get the book in hardback, and there is an exclusive embroidered morale patch with each book purchased via the Kickstarter. The book is available to ship world wide- if your country is not listed, please let me know and I can add it to the Kickstarter for you.
The South African Defence Force was widely regarded as the best military in Africa throughout the final years of the Cold War. This book looks at the uniform, webbing, field gear, weapons and personal equipment used by soldiers of this force in the 1970s and 1980s, together with insignia and paperwork to make the most detailed survey of the subject ever published. Packed full of photographs of original pieces drawn from collectors around the world, these are accompanied by period photographs and personal recollections of those who served in the SADF in this period together with accounts from the designers of some items of equipment. Items covered include:
-Background on the SADF, National Service and Service on the Border
-Combat uniforms, step outs, specialist clothing and boots
-Webbing including 61/64, 70, 83 and 90 pattern sets
-Helmets, respirators, body armour and other field equipment
-Wash kit, mess tins, rations and water bottles, small kit carried in the pack
-Rifles including the R1, R2 and R4 rifles, plus accessories and variants
-Light and Sub Machine guns including the MAG, SS-77, Converted Bren, Uzi and Milkor BXP
-Mortars, grenade launchers and grenades
-Rank and unit insignia
The book is being released in two formats- a standard paperback release and an exclusive hardcover copy that is only available to those who back the book on Kickstarter which will come numbered and signed by the author. The paperback will cost £30 + P&P and the hardback copy £50 + P&P.
For those of you unsure about Kickstarters- this is a way of crowd funding a project to raise the capital to get it off the ground. If you back a project, you only get charged if the project meets its goals and has enough backers to make it viable. You pledge certain amounts of money in return for different rewards (in this case the book in either hard or soft cover) and when the project has been funded the book will be printed and shipped to you.
The Kickstarter runs for the next thirty days so you don’t have much time to back it. You can find my Kickstarter here: Just a moment...
