Barn FindET64 M35 DD Stalingrad Kessel Rossoshka

Here's a nice M35 ET64 found in a barn northeast of Rossoshka, a village in the Stalingrad Kessel. The lot number is readable, but really hard to photograph, as well as the stamping. The paint is in good condition, but an odd color for an ET M35. Decals are rubbed off for the most part. It has a shrapnel hole to the side, and heavy damage on the crown caused by an unknown object. Slow moving and heavy, whatever it was.

According to the map, the 113th Infantry Division was defending Northeast of Rossoshka. Was this the actual unit that lost the helmet? I don't know.

Definately unique helmet, never will find a battledamaged helmet that looks the same.

If the helmet witnessed the Battle of Stalingrad, you really have a fascinating testimony to a significant and tragic event in history.

Congratulations on this great find.

As far as the damage to the top of the helmet is concerned, the shape would make me think of a brick that fell on top of it, perhaps during the shelling of the city, since shrapnel also caused damage. But of course that's just speculation, what really happened could only be said by those who were there.
