    Hello,
Wanted to share photos of a german M42 helmet, which was found by my comrade in the same bunker as the M42 helmet i posted on previous topic. The M42 helmet has no decals, no clearly visible makers marks, size, and partial lot nr. The M31 liner was made from steel, liner leather has size stamp 57, the helmet had chinstrap produced in 1943, with painted steel buckle. The helmet is unique because it has owners initials, last name "Weltz(?)" According to information available on open sources in the area in the end of 1944/45 were stationed units from Grenadier-Regiment 502., 290 Infanterie division, prior to that there were units from 132. Infanterie division. The helmet was cleaned and coated with wax, to preserve it.

Thank you, not really it has hardened, when i got from my buddy for cleaning and wax coating, the leather was exposed to heat, and dry air. It dried out. My comrade didn't had time to look after it.

A very interesting spliced leather liner. I rarely see these on normal sized liners

I never had seen something like that before. To me it is not clear what could have been the reason for different material leather "tongue". A field repair? Or shortage of the material?

Allright, thanks for explanation- there were other helmets- more specific remains of them- with the shells coroded so badly it was not possible to salvage them, and there were remains from liners- rather leather scraps- and there was one other with a tongue from other type of leather.
