Ordnungspolizei M17 Relic

Hello. Here is a beaten up M17 shell from Ukraine I picked up earlier in the year.

Several layers of paint and Ordnungspolizei decal remnants just about visible as you can see. I’m curious about the darker layer of paint underneath the green, does this indicate it was something else pre WW2 ? Your input is much appreciated. Cheers!

Is the black paint over or under the green paint? And is it over or under the decals?

The blackish paint appears to be underneath both the decals and the green paint.

Interesting helmet. In my gut I do like it but transitional helmets and the journey's they were on are certainly not my specialty. Hopefully Jim or someone sees this and can provide a theory.

Odd bright green paint on the interior though.

Thanks for taking a look. As for the interior - previous owner scraped a thick layer of recent glossy khaki green paint from all over the helmet to reveal what was underneath and did not have time to finish removing it all from the inside.
