This one came from Inka, and in a poor state indeed.
The rust is literally falling from it, it has taken hold badly.
It was "rescued" just in time..

Even in the box it came in, you can see how it is wasting away
Nothing now remains of it's original state, paint/decals, now long gone.
Very sharp in places, you have to be careful when you pick it up.
It needs help and quick..
Hello mate.
Do you have a helmet cleaning or restoration plan?
Regards
Santi
It's not going to be a restoration as such, just a sympathetic clean up.
Oxalic acid bath will do wonders for it.
let it 'Rust In peace'
I've had some rusty shells over the years and in a case like this, I'll clean it up by brushing off the surface debris and rust flakes...keep it stored indoors where it's nice and dry and you've got yourself a presentable relic...It's amazing what a bit of TLC can do to a lid like this, and I haven't had one fall apart on me yet, lol...

It actually doesn't look too bad. Because there is no paint left, I would take a chisel or razor blade, and gently scrape off the rust clumps. After you get most of it off, you can give it an oxalic acid bath and you should have a nice displayable helmet.
I do repeat though, do it GENTLY. You're not actually "chiseling" your are scraping. A chisel is stronger than a razor blade for those stubborn clumps of rust.
I agree the shell itself isn't so bad...The surface debris looks loose enough that it will brush off easily...I don't recommend a Chisel...Let us know how it goes...

Well, I want all of the rust gone, I can't see any holes as yet..
