Fantastic find! I wish I lived in Europe again. I'd be pestering old farmers to allow me to wander through their barns.

Hi gentlemen,
The two helmets were bearing on a beam in the barn, the new owner of the property phone me, and so I save this two survivors.
Effectively the rats have chewed a little the leather liner, but not to much. The dificult was to clean & made the leather supple.

Great finds Carfin, a rarity nowadays.
Would have been nice if you did not clean them. I see the change from your first set of pics in their natural found state to the later pics of them cleaned. The dust & dirt from them sitting there all these years is what made these special IMO. Looks like maybe you treated the chinstrap ? I was so excited seeing these, I did not notice the pics of them cleaned.
Oh well, they are your helmets so you can do as you please. But for me, now they are just worn helmets with nothing "magical" about them.

Hi gentlemen,
No panic gentlemen, I dismonted not the helmets, just clean softly the metal from the 3mm powder mix of dust, dirt & rust & I wipe with an light oily coton clothe .
If I do not that, the Luftwaffe eagle does not appear, & the rust will take more damage.
I rehydrate & clean softly the leather. No treatment or chemical process, only with a swam & water, as natural as possible.
Thats all what I do.
Best regards from Alsace , France.
