Gasmask canister.

I have a heavily rusted German gasmask canister from the Ardennes. What can I do the best to conserve it?

I also have a question regarding gasmask canister, mine is in greath shape but some full ( me when i was yunger ) painted over original collor some home made camo collor and i woud like to know how coud i remowe that masterpice and get the it to original state ?

So, in first I will offer to keep it as is. But Demien would to have a acetone, then a piece of soft cloth, plasic bag. Place the cannicter to the cloth, then put it to the bag, fill with a 300 gremm of acetone, wait for about 30 minutes, and try to remove it with the cloth you are warapped in. 90% works! Don;t forget to make a pictures of pre and after conditions

Thanks for your advise, but if i understand you corect i have to put the canister wrapet in a clouth in to the plastic bag then spil in to the bag the aceton and then waith !?
