I was wondering what steps I should take to preserve this M38. I was hoping to stop further rusting and maybe take some of the light rust off I'm not an expert in these types of things so would love some opinions on what I should do thanks.

First of all you need to establish if it is a genuine helmet. Difficult to tell from these photographs, but I have serious doubts about it. Better photographs required to be sure, and a frontal shot of the 'dip' in the rim - if there is one - would help too.

On my phone it looks like zig zag stitching on the liner seam. If so, proof positive it's a fake. In any case, I too question its authenticity. Jim G.

I hope these photographs help a bit more thanks for the help. The manufacturer code and size stamp are barely visible so I tried my best there.
A Chinese fake. I hope you didn't pay much!
