Article about: I've just received two black Czech reissue German helmets (M40 & M42) and I am starting with a M42...

    Yea, that's what I thought. I noticed most SS M42s have rough texture surfaces and assumed that it was common.

    the texture is standard after 1940 but not in black.

    My M42 ET68 Shell ... Restauration !

    1 Step - buy / find the shell
    2 Step - clean in warm water and detergent
    3 Step - cleaning the shell in water with lemon-salt for 24 hours
    4 Step - remove dimples / imperfections and bumps with fine pastes/putty
    5 Step - finish the final form ... with fine sandpaper (most difficult operation)
    6 Step - applying primer
    7 Step - find the correct paint
    8 Step - applying paint & decal
    9 Step - apply a water-based protective lacquer (optional)
