It is possible to remove this silver paint with an Acetone solution, in a well ventilated area...with care and time you should be able to remove and re polish with black boot polish, I did this to a Pickelhaube that was painted gloss white, and it turned out great ! let us know how you get on......
    Prost ! Steve.

The main problem if this is a paint based on original metal powder or not, if the paint mixed with aluminum powder, it will be hard to remove with acetone, but if this is a artificial paint, it will be easyly removed. But remember - the original paint is made from dissolved asphalte, which is a kind of heaviest oil product from it's creacking, it wil may dissolve first. But anyway you have a chance to remove the paint until the base leather , and paint it with a new layer of asphalt, but I gues it will not be so easy.

Hello Vicky, is this your Pickelhaube? Good luck with the paint removal. I hope you're making good progress.

No, it's my partners Spitace41. It appears he forgot to log off. Although, i've spent my fair share of time helping him with this and it appears to be coming on slowly.
