I've used all of the above over the years. Citric acid is the least dangerous or severe in my opinion but something left in ANY acid for too long will go back to base metal ( and you don't want to lose all the patina of age )

I would probably not use a vinegar soak with this shell as you could be left with more ventilation than you wanted. Look forward to seeing how you get on.

Took it out of the Oxalic bath this morning. Sat for approx 18 hours in the acid.
Now it's drying. Doesn't look like a lot of rust came off but a lot did. Just luck at the bucket!
Once dry I will decide if it needs a tea bath or something else. I'm not trying to remove all the rust. I want the "relic" look. Just don't want it to shed rust
