Rust removal on an M40

Article about: Gents, I purchased a rusted out shell of an M40 to convert into a lamp shade. Lots of rust flakes, pin holes and areas of very thin metal. Without using electrolysis or chemical baths I was

    So here it is after a 17 hour tea bath. Most of the remaining rust is locked in. Overall good enough for a lamp shade.

    Thanks Dan. I have a pretty ugly lamp made by a vet using an artillery round. Hopefully this won't make it any uglier..LoL

    I'll post photos once I'm done. (Trust me, the lamp is ugly)

    I tried to find a splintered or burst shell cartridge for mine but never found one that they didn't want a fortune for!!!

    Looks Nice enough! I might test the tea method if I get around to restoring another relic helmet. Also is that a Prussian Tschapka I spy to the left in the first and second pictures?

    Why yes........it is a Prussian Garde Tshcapka. Nice of you to notice. LoL

    Haven't put it away yet as I'm trying to make room in the case.
