Default F. Dick SA dagger - opinions appreciated

    Hi forum,

Pardon if these SA dagger threads get repetitive. I hope we all love to see some daggers.

I am looking at this "across the blade variant" of the maker F. Dick. I am interested in it.

I did my own observations but would like some extra opinions on this dagger:

    * To me the grip fits nicely in the guards.
    * The gruppe mark SW on the bottom guard is known for the maker.
    * The blade has good crossgrain but towards the tip is has been cleaned/ scrubbed a bit.
    * The scabbard fits very nice on the bottom crossguard which makes me think it is original to the dagger.
    * The zapon layer is still pretty much intact over the anodizing.
    * The Motto and the maker mark are clean and well done.

Do the fittings appear to be nickle or plated steel? I cannot make this out based on the images provided.
The tang nut seems to have been openend before.

Any and all critiques or comments are appreciated.

We all love to see daggers

Grip fit is nice, Gruppe mark is correct for F. Dick. Crossguards are nickel, those are just polished.
To me scabbard look to be painted? so it is incorrect for early SA dagger. It might be by Eickhorn made as the throat is slightly fatter

Get a small magnet and place it gently on top of the scabbard fittings.

If the fittings are nickel ...there will be a minute pull on the magnet....but not much at all.
If the fittings are steel...the magnet will have a stronger pull.

The scabbard fittings to appear to be steel in your photo and the scabbard screws appear to be late as it looks to have lost its silver plate.
I could be wrong..but do the magnet test first.

    Good Morning Larry,

Thank you for speedy your reply. I appreciate your insight and willingness to help.
The seller did a check and indeed they are steel fittings. To my eyes it looked like laquer but it was indeed painted scabbard.

I am afraid I am going to give this one a pass - again.

Interesting that the lower crossguard fits so well into the scabbard. Can this be explained that F. Dick did not make their own fittings and guards?
    Perhaps they used Eickhorn materials?

Actually, the crossguard does not fit well into the scabbard. There is quite a noticeable gap.
