Need help for my SA dagger
My SA dagger has been displayed on a table for a long time with no problems, but a couple weeks ago I noticed some brown residue on the surface of the scabbard. I carefully wiped it off and didn't think about it much, but today I noticed more had accumulated. The air is too dry for rust, I don't know what material the scabbard surface is made of and why brown dust is appearing on it. Any help would be appreciated.

The scabbard body is made of steel.
- If it is an early dagger the finish is brown, but like like bluing on a gun. There may be a coat of protective clear lacquer.
- If it a later, there is a coat of brown paint.
As the gent above says, Photos are needed.

If there are areas where the laquer is gone...this is the result of time and a slow degradation.
This same thing has happened on my SA daggers that have thinning laquer or the anodized color aka bluing.
On a few of my totally lost laquer on the scabbards..I wiped down the scabbard with a dry cotton cloth and applied a coating of a Microcrystalline wax , called Renaissance Wax easily found on Amazon or Ebay.
Yes I agree with the other Gents...lets see some photos first.
