Here's an example of the pictures I'm referring to. Of course this is a real one :D
Hi Gerd, thanks for posting this blade. The crossgrain in the indicated area looks quite convincing. Is it possible to show more pictures of this blade? Especially a picture that shows the crossgrain...
I think they will have a very hard time faking crossgrain. To me it seems impossible to make it look like real crossgrain but maybe I'm being too optimistic. When someone finds examples of faked...
An original to campare with. Also notice that the blade of the fake one I posted above has no traces of crossgrain. Also a good way to spot them.

Here's an interesting one I recently found on an online auction. It has a laser etched trademark by Eickhorn. Not bad at all I would say. But when you look at the entire dagger you can see that the...
And here's another one. Easy to identify if you know that Eickhorn NEVER used an etched trademark on their navy blades. The etch is executed quite nicely though and the trademark is very convincing....
This navy dagger is currently being offered for sale. It is offered without a grip so it has to be authentic LOL! NOT! It's a fake with many red flags.

Hi Vedran,
Thanks for posting all these recently produced fakes. It makes every collector aware that in this hobby knowledge is the most important thing. Can you tell us something about the origin...
Those portepees look convincing but there is one thing they still can't fake. It is the "flat" appearance of the threads of the portpepee that is the result of wear. I always look for this when I...
You are right Peter. I did forget that one. I think the one you show is quite rare too! Thanks for the additional picturecool militaria

These pictures are old, when I was still learning how to make good clear photo's :D But here are the four makermarks that Alcoso used.

Here's another fake navy dagger that is currently being auctioned. It is advertised as 100% original. The seller photographed it on a reference book to make it look more convincing :D
I've seen more...
Here's another navy dagger that is currently being offered for sale for the price of 685 euro. A pretty good deal for a minty original. The etch looks perfect. That makes sense because this dagger...
I agree that these navies look very real but when compared to an original they don't even come close. I don't want to give away too many details because unfortunately the people who make these fakes...
Hi mpnox,
Please send me a pm and I will point out a few things.

When I started collecting navy daggers I thought there were no fakes of this type. Well, it didn't take long before I bought myself a real fake :( When I found this out I was very disappointed. I got...
And here's another very well made fake navy dagger. You can see these were made to deceive because they have been artificially aged very professionally.

I wouldn't say this one is perfect but this navy dagger will certainly fool many new collectors.
