Two years later… I was thinking about the helmet and got reinvigorated to find out more about the veteran. I went and found the sons Facebook and searched it for “ww2” and boom! I found a article he...

I was doing research and I believe I found more information on the 999th light afrika division. There was a book written by Jeffrey L. Littlejohn and Charles H. Ford, titled: The Enemy Within Never...
Thank you for the reply’s. The only thing written on the underside of the liner is 52. I believe that’s the size marking
Thank you! I have not ever heard a last name along the lines of shultshieuler. I agree that it is most likely that it’s his last name because there is no extra s after shults for the s in shieuler.
What wonders just wiping the dirt off with a wet cloth will do! I think his name is Karl shults shieuler, as in surname is shieuler and his middle name is shults. Is it possible that the vet might...

I believe that the regent that the German was in was the Afrika-Schützen-Regiment 962. I would like other people’s opinions on this because I am unsure that this is the regiment
Using this map I figured out that the vet was in the 9th infantry division. Is there a map of the German units who were in the area at the time?

The veterans family did not want to tell me the veterans name. The veterans last name is Tyler and was in North Africa, Sicily, D day , France and Belgium. I bought it in Virginia so I can assume the...
I am curious as to why there is a red painted swastica under the paint on the right side of the helmet. I believe it looks like it was there before the reissue because it’s smooth were it is painted...

Thank you for the input. I’ll try to post pictures of the scratches. I believe the scratches say May 45 then there’s more to it but it’s very hard to read. Do any of you know any ways to get it...
