Hello Timothy, A very interesting example from the Austrian maker Genossenschafts Maschinenhaus der Büchsenmacher, Ferlach/Kärnten - it shows several aspects of a transitional/"in process" bayonet. With one being the date change from 1943 to 1944, using a modified earlier date stamp, with the original secondary number taken off leaving the “4” for 1944. Which can occasionally be seen to a limited extent with other examples, but it’s not common. And the change in the numbering system that they were using which was now more in conformance with the other SG 84/98 bayonet makers. With the bayonet itself having what looks like some aggressive cleaning that has impacted it and the grip plates, and it’s missing the flashguard. But it’s still an interesting example of what was going on especially during the later part of the war, which varied depending on the maker.

With Hörster (asw) one of the makers that sometimes used the contracted out, stamped and welded scabbards, that were manufactured by Wallmeyer (August), Maschinenfabrik und Eisengießereei, Eisenach/Thüringen (ie: “can”). With most times the "can" markings erased or partially erased. Regards, Fred

    Hello,

there exist some more with this kind of stamping of this maker... they use blades made in the year before, you can see the low serialnumber.... 602 A = 10602. example of the year 1944.
