There is nothing special, its a portugal Mo937A contract piece, marked with typical serial prefix E on pommel, the scabbard was unmarked too only WaA253 proofed on ball finial.

To elaborate a bit on Andy’s reply:
There were two contracts for export to Portugal: one in 1937 and one in 1941. This bayonet was made under the first contract.
WaA253 was an inspector who was active in the Solingen area. Unfortunately there were many bayonet manufacturers in that area. To my knowledge it remains unknown which manufacturer in the Solingen area made these bayonets.

We see this sometimes with varied unmarked edged weapon types ....and could very well be sub contracted out to be assembled from an unknown source.

I understand with the Portugal contract bayonets, one of the suspect makers is E.u.F. Horster. The WaA253 inspector mark was used in Solingen between 1937-39.

Hello,
thanks a lot.
How high are such bayonets traded approximately?
greetings

Not particularly rare/hard to find the value usually depends on the condition with the first contract as a rule being the worst. And the second contract the best. With some some of the second contract (rifles and bayonets) being expropriated-retained by the Germans. Best Regards, Fred

Value to compare of normal Wehrmacht S84/98 bayonets are low, max to 100 in excellent condition, in majority under this.
