Hello,
you don't have a bayonet but a fire department fascine knife. It is not designed or built to be planted on a weapon and has a guard on both sides.
The frog is an original piece for a bayonet of the german Postschutz - Postal Protection Guard .
DRP Oppl - Deutsche Reichspost - Postschutz der Postdirektion Oppeln.
Unfortunately, it was painted over you with shiny black paint.
An example that something is often put together that obviously fits ... but doesn't belong together.
Regards
Thank you for your answers. The etching is postwar made ?
SW correctly described the frog a Postschutz piece, the etch could be real, as similar FM for Fireguards are not extra faked.
Not a bayonet but a faschinenmesser, effectively a tool. Only very rarely etched, this is not an authentic etching. A shame really as a tidy WKC example has been ruined.
Thank you all for the answers. Too bad the etching is not original
I understand now.Thank you ! To bad that the fake etched ruined the faschinenmesser
The etching uses a modern font, perhaps a presentation piece put together for a more recent service. I agree its a pity a piece of history was ruined by doing so.
These dress bayos can be bought cheaply and fakers have been doing this for decades knowing that these is money to be made with etched bayos.
Sadly a great majority of etched bayos are bad
