Same here, I only paid $13 for this one
Unless i'm proved otherwise all canteens produced between 1910-1917 had NO makers mark or date.only 1918 would carry both.production would not continue again until 1942.i'm at a loss as to why the pre 1918 unmarked canteen seldom shows up.unless being pre-war they were only made in limited numbers.so a 1917 dated one would be rarer than pandora's box...............well it would if it actually existed.
Morning everyone,
interesting argument, if it can be useful for a comparison I add a example of US M-1910 canteen, complete with all its parts.
The cup was made by the same manufacturer of your example:
LF & C 1918 (Landers, Frary & Clark).
Canteen is unmarked and is made in welded rough aluminum with 1914 cap and neck improvements; in my experience these features indicate a production made by Rock Island Arsenal, but I not sure.
The cover, post-1917 patter, is marked:
KEMPER THOMAS COMPANY 11 1918
it is a well-known US Army canvas equipments supplier.
Regards
Roberto
