I also translated that bag. (^__^)
Last name is 夏目 Natsume. I was unable to make out the given name, but it begins with 軍 [gun].
Don't know what the いほ [i-ho] in hiragana means.
Hmmmmm .... Could that last kanji be 曹 ? If so:
夏目軍曹
Natsume Gunsō
Sergeant Natsume
And I still don't know what the いほ [i-ho] in hiragana means.

Guy,
Thank you so much for helping me out on the personal effects bag a second time. I was just trying to figure out that last character was and you absolutely nailed it. After looking at it under a flashlight at different angles it does appear to be 軍曹 (Sergeant). With some of the ink missing due to wear, I find it amazing that you were still able to translate it. That is absolutely fantastic to now have the name of the Japanese soldier that this dog tag belonged to. I can't thank you enough! I will frame it with all the information you provided.
