It is junk. Please repost the image here so it remains. You can find many images of the authentic badge here if you look carefully.
You want what my Low Country friend included for us here. These immediate pre war and or wartime badges
are exceptionally rare. I do not collect these, but I pay attention to them, and I also know who posts here knows
the a$$ from page 10, as it were.
The M5/8 fakes of these are a pox on the undertaking.
M5/8 was surely a legitimate mark for actual buttons.
Thank you!
Will someone here please explain besides myself why said object is fake?
The question was posed to me, but I will pass it to you, in turn.
If some of our badge stalwarts can offer an answer, I would appreciate it.
The M5/8 death's head button is a notorious fake, and it is based on a prototype of later manufacture, but with a different marking.

Please do not ask me who is 1194, other than it is an SSVA or SSWVHA license number.
The marking M5/8 in this insignia is incorrect.
There surely were buttons of the conventional type, i.e. tunic buttons and so forth with the M5/8 mark, but not on the
death's head button.
