Hi All,
This is my first post!
I lived in PNG as a teenager and still have a few things i collected there.
One is this canteen. it has the owners name engraved on it and I've often thought of sending it back to Japan to the owners family - since he surely would not have made it home wearing it.
But IDing him would be hard.
IDing this canteen seems hard - I can't find another one like it anywhere.
I've read through the very informative sticky here "Evolution of the IJA canteen" and I think mine is a pre-war - it has the arrows and hand Nigiriya mark of Japan Light Metals Company.
Does that mean the type of canteen and the type of owner/unit is was issued to is totally random?
Cheers
John K
PS - sorry for the images all being around the wrong way. I have a samsung phone and no matter what I do, they always turn 90 deg to where they should be .....
