Wanting to collect polish uprising helmets

Hello,

My name is Greg and I’m looking to collect WW2 Polish uprising helmets. The helmets worn by the Home Army and partisans. What I find difficult is shelling out a thousand plus when someone could paint a white and red stripe and say it’s authentic. What should I look out for? How could I tell if the paint is aged
