Re: WEHRPAS help needed
Hi Adam,
There's a awful lot information in the Wehrpass, I'll flesh it out a little. Dealing with Page 11, he was joined up on 9th Jan 1937 presenting himself two days before 7th Jan 1937 at Deggendorf near Passau taking the oath on 16th Jan 1937. He did his basic training with 16 (E) Company Infantry Regiment 20 on the 3 March 1937 he was demobbed.
Page 12 - rejoined 27.8.39 - 11 Company Infantry Regiment 423 he stayed with this regiment until his death in Russia 15.1.44. On 18.9.42 the regiment was renamed Grenadier Regiment 423.
Page 22 - 1.12.40 he was promoted to Lance Corporal
1.2.43 " " " " Full Corporal
Page 23 1.12.43 " " " " Sargent - he was awarded the Iron Cross 2nd Class on 12.11.40. He also received East Front Medal. That covers four pages for you hope that's enough for you at the moment. Regards Alec

Re: WEHRPAS help needed
A very, very nice ( did I say very? ) medal and document grouping! .... well worthy of a self-giving Xmas pressie!!!
Nice to see it all kept together, too often you would see the EK2 go one way, the award doc the other, the death cards, photos and wehrpass all split up.
This is SOOOOOO much history all in one!...... enjoy it and NEVER break it up please!
Cheers, Dan

Re: WEHRPAS help needed
His combat unit was 11 / Infanterie Regiment 423 part of 212 Infanterie Divison , he fought on the Eastern front as part of Armee Gruppe Nord around Leningrad and the Oranianbaum pocket having been stationed in France in the Argonne and Mosel areas prior to Barbarossa.
He was admitted to the Hauptverbandpalatz ( Main dressing station ) Page 34 Feldpost nummer 21644 on 31/5/1942 during the fighting in the Wolchow Pocket south east of Leningrad and then is show as Gefallen ( KIA) in 15/1/44 in Russland , at this time the Divison was still in the Wolchow area , it would seem he was killed during the first days of the Russian Offensive to relieve Leningrad and breakout from Oranianbaum.
He certainly seems to have been a veteran Frontkampfer of Army Group North.
