Hello everyone,
As usual please add anything you see or give any corrections where necessary, especially if anyone has any information on schwere panzer brückenkolonne 893.
Here we have a prewar Wehrpass to a soldier who spent most of his service involved with medical and training units, along with service in a heavy bridge building unit.
The Wehrpass was opened on the 3rd of October 1936 in Dresden. Gerhard Weber, who was conscripted (dienstplichtiger), was born on the 12th of February 1914 in Dresden, Germany. His profession was ‘Friseurgehilfe’ (assistant barber without the full vocational training). His religion is listed as evangelical, he was married on the 26th of May 1937 and interestingly there is no father listed in the Wehrpass.
Service-
He was called up in 1943 and served March to June 1943 with Sanitäts. Ers. Abt. 13, a medical replacements unit based in Bad Kissingen. June 1943 to March 1944 he served with Sanitäts Abteilung Radom, an army medical depot in Poland. April 1944 he served with Heeres Sanitäts Staffel Pulawy, also based in Poland. April to June 1944 he was schooled at medical and drivers schooling units in Kassel and Hersfeld.
During this time he received the Wehrmacht Kraftfahrzeug Führerschien class 2 and 3, along with this he was trained as a driver of the Kettenkrad, Halbketten Sonder Kraftwagen 2. Finally from July 1944 he served in the field with Schwere Panzer Brücken Kolonne 893, a heavy tank bridges building unit. On the 15th of March 1945 he was provisionally released from military service (vorläufig), with a promotion to the rank of Obergefreiter. The last unit noted upon release was Brücken staffel (mot) 930.
