Advice on cleaning Nickle 63 buckle
Im a newly signed up member and was looking for some advice on what I suspect is a contentious subject amoungst members - cleaning (or not to clean) a buckle.
Whilst researching a recent RMZ 63 purchase in this forum I noticed that Ben had previously showed a very fine example before cleaning and after - and must confess that I liked the post clean pictures better.
So my question is how do you reach that light level of clean effect on a nickel buckle ?
I have viewed this forum from the outside for quite some time and found the advice on fakes has been very useful indeed.
Many thanks
Michael

Hi Michael, again as you stated quite a sensitive subject to some, however you can do what you like to your own property. If the buckle is what i call a cleanable condition then I used toothpaste (yes toothpaste) on a soft toothbrush and clean the buckle with it, gentle rubbing the buckle with the brush and getting into all the nooks and crannies. I will then leave the toothpaste on for around 10 mins. I then rinse it off and dy the buckle. Once that has been done I do the same again with silver polish or brasso. That is cleaned off and i then clean the buckle with a light rubbing of brasso and then clean it all off and buff it up.

Thanks Ben, the tooth paste was a surprise. I am currently waiting for the buckle in question to arrive as sometimes it is camera lighting rather than actual grime. I will only give the gentlest clean if necessary. Keep up the good work as your posts have saved me wasting a fortune over the past few months alone !! Kindest regards Michael
