This looks to me like an army NCO sword with added SS engravings and a Danziger type of skull added to the hanger.

Looks like this to me also. The SS never had a sword of this style.
The SS sword pattern is unique, and very similar
    to the Police type.

I don't have a link, but I know there were similar swords with an SS marking
which was stamped on the blade only. There was some discussion
of these on the forum a while ago.

Further reasearch/study required on my part, as I had never seen
an Army style sword with SS langets before - silver or gilt.........

Prior to 1936 SS officers carried army style swords. Examples of both dovehead and lionheads exist. Some with SS rune languets. Many such examples are shown in Wittmann's excellent reference. Often collectors are lerry about such pieces as they often command high prices. I make no judgement on the example pictured above.

From what I have seen, the fake SS sabers outnumber the legitimate ones by far to include some sold by dealer(s) in relatively recent times. With some very questionable ones also being in Wittmann's SS book which surfaced later for discussion. With one of the easier ways to make a conventional sword into a much more valuable "SS" sword by using an newly made appliqué attached to the langet. Which seems to be the case here, with what looks like in the image a "scrubbed" to bare metal langet, with a set of not that well done hand made runes soldered to the langet (with some examples it's using a new langet overlay, or an escutcheon).
