    Hey!
I was wondering if anyone could give me a second opinion on this dagger?
I have been offered it, but unfortunately know too little about SS daggers. Have a friend who judged it, but would probably like to get a few more opinions on it.

    Sincerely:

    Michael.

Not what it seems in my opinion.

The scabbard is a later RZM product with dome head steel screws

The grip is either refinished or new and the upper guard does not look like an early guard - look at the grooves

There is a "I" on the front of the lower guard. It is backwards if it is real

Detail of the blade is not good enough to say much

Gustav Spitzer did have 2 SS contract codes in 1938 and 1939

    1197/38 SS Gustav Spitzer, Solingen
    1197/39 SS Gustav Spitzer, Solingen

No early production by this producer and as Dave pointed out ...the dagger appears made of parts with a very hazy blade photo.
It looks like an SS dagger ...but isnt what it appears

Here is what the markings on an 1197/38 SS should look like.

    Hey!
Thank you so much for your comments
It has saved me a lot of money.
It is so easy to be fooled by what looks like a good original dagger.
But it's lucky that these forums exist
With kind and cold greetings from Sweden
