Yes, Ebony in fact
I think the one I have may have been a parts dagger then. It has the SA type brown handle.
Could you show a pic please?

Yes, pic please ...
This dagger has at the very least, been taken apart and reassembled incorrectly.
The lower crossguard has been removed and re-installed reversed as can be seen by the stamp. Some SS daggers are known to be acceptable with faded handles. I would suggest that you post more photos, the maker's mark, and blade etch to name a couple that would help to verify it's originality.

Does the blade have an SS motto too ? It would be interesting
to have a look at it as well. Looks like someone has tried to
make up an SS with SA parts.........

They did dye some of the wood grips, however. This particular one looks to have dark areas on it that may possibly be remains of a faded dye. The wood fit to the guard and the pommel are quite good. As has been said, though, it has been disassembled at one time or another and the lower guard is on backwards. I've actually seen SS daggers with almost pure brown grips. Not common, but they Did exist. This one has exceptionally darker brown grips-which still has a good chance, in my opinion. Then again, without more photos, this could simply be an SA that's been jimmied into an SS configuration and shoe polish rubbed into the wood. Obviously, more photos are needed for a definitive answer.
Ade has a very light colored SS dagger you may want to look at:

As Dean as said most of the SS daggers had Ebony grips,, but this ebony was imported. When there was no ebony then the end result was the makers used the same woods as seen on SA grips. It would be difficult fro the others including myself to give you the best assessment with only one photo. A close up pic of the grip would help and as Walkwolf said also,,show us the blade...both sides. On Ades link of his SS dagger,,he has what is correct to see, on dyed SS gripsthat have faded. I am pretty sure this grip is not an SS grip. Regards Larry
