nice combat helmet what are the scratches on the left side, was it cleaned with sand paper?

Great helmet! Is it safe to call this SS decal the Champagne type - or has it only "yellowed" with age. Great helmet - I have a little over 20 helmets - but no SS (yet!). Looks like a nice combat vet! Those are my fave type of helmets!
