Default SS M40 possible matched docs.

Well I finally went ahead & had the documents sent to me for my named SS helmet. I held off because I was told the info (if matching) is minimal. But for a small fee, I had it done. Seems officer Wachter was promoted to 1st Lut. Sept 11, 1944. He was an officer in the "WTL" as a fach-fuhrer (spec. tech). This might also imply a weapons technical advisor & or trainer for W.SS troops. He also appeared to be well educated being described as "Diploma Engineer", a doctorate in his field.

Being he is the only officer with given name in SS archives, slight wear to the helmet, costly "ink stamp" name few could afford the luxury of & the large size..(he was 30 years old, not 18) has me convinced it all adds up. Anyway...really no big deal but just an added bonus to the helmet

    Hi Marty...
Too bad he was not an NSDAP member. The info would have been much more detailed.

I know german helmets are harder to research verse US helmets.

Marvelous helmet David in just the condition you like. Having the biographical details of the original owner is a bonus well worth having and being a late war training specialist/advisor might also imply his helmet spent most of its time on top of his filing cabinet, and explains it's superb condition. Anyone who goes to the trouble of getting a name stamp made is a fairly fastidious person.

    Hi Anderson
Guy could have been some educated aristocrat...with the doctorate degree in engineering. Most of these M40 SS helmets went to Russia...we rarely see them with little wear. So yes, it may have been in a locker or on top of his cabinet.
    Thanks, D.

Still loving that helmet and with the new documentation it makes it even better.
"Please", Thank You" and proper manners appreciated

Unbelievable lid as always David! Every time I see your content I just think to myself “Goals... goals... goals” haha

Kudos for doing the work to put more info with the name! Even the smallest bit of info is incredibly important in telling the story of a lid. Brings the helmet to life that’s for sure.
