Hi, I am new to helmet collecting and recently purchased this helmet from a reputable vendor. It was sold as a 1934 Transitional SS single decal. Hoping you can provide opinions regarding its authenticity.

And I imagine you paid 15 to 20K for it.
Brave man.
Hi,
So, Schwerpunkt, what is your opinion? Your comment is not understood.
Thanks.

If you bought it from a reputable source he would have charged you a reputable price of 15 to 20 K.
Or he sold you it for a whole lot less ?
These are very dangerous helmets to buy for that kind of money. The insignia were painted and paint is easy to fake. Secondly a lot of these helmets were re used , repainted for other war uses so not many authentic ones are left hence the inflated prices for those considered original.
is the interior completely painted black ?
Personally I would send it back.
That does not look like a painted Decal to me Schwerpunkt.
The decal does not look painted to me either. But also unfortunately it does not look real either. I personally have never encountered a single decal SS transitional helmet in 50+ years of collecting that was real. I'd ask for a refund.
Cheers,
Terry
I am with Terry - send it back. Jim G.
Ok thanks everyone, that's helpful. In regards to answering some of the questions that have been raised, I paid about one tenth of the prices you've mentioned so that probably is a good indicator. Regarding the question of is it black inside the helmet- yes it is but the inner dome of the helmet has a slightly different patina to it. It is very slightly lighter in colour (but this is very subtle).
