I picked up another one of these nice 1934-35 pattern eagles designed for Nazi Party Officials' caps, but often used on SA and SS caps. This one has all of it's attachment prongs and stamped rzm 17, Assmann I assume.

Thanks Dan, I like this type too. they don't pop up as often as the smaller eagles. I have another one with a darker patina and different attachments.

This thread reminded me, a long time ago I had an eagle marked with rzm 17 had a small tear in the beak and was missing the bottom prong, I don't know how it would fit in your timeline.
    gives questions for thought.

Your question prompted me to gather up my small eagles and examine them further. To my surprise one of mine is also marked 17. Thank you, I thought I only had one that was marked 52. I assume these 1929 "pattern" eagles were produced for sometime after their initial introduction depending on the demand for the caps that utilized them. They are certainly abundant and economical. My interest lies solely in the use of these eagles on the early SS caps as documented in period photo's and forum members contributions.

I love the little eagles and yes they are abundunt and economical. I have to look but believe I have a couple marked ones in my collection. Another thing that I find interesting is the many different varients in the smaller ones

A heavily underrated piece. Regards, Jannis.
