Thank you for your post Another Ant, But it has very little to do with the observation i made.
I have worked in a machine shop that made die stamps. It had machines and instruments that went back to the 60's. Although there were improvements with technology the core procedure with stamping material was mostly the same compared to the period of 1930-1940's. The part of the die stamp that punched out the front section of the Deschler 52 Types is in all the variants of this type identical. After this there is a second procedure that punched out the nose and eye cavities. I think that due to the little material that needed to be removed the cutting block wore out more quickly and was replaced more frequently than the front and back part of the stamp. This would explain the differences in shape of nose and eye cavities.
After comparing more today. I have come to a conclusion that this skull in the OP was made by a different die stamp. The differences are piling up! I have marked the most noticeable ones with arrows on the photo below. This does not make it fake.. There could have been a second die stamp for the Deschlers that were marked 52, but just before this one turned up... None other has ever seen the light of day in my time of researching these insignia. I don't like it! So what are we going to call it?
