A deschler anomaly??

I've been reading through all of the old threads in the metal insignia sub forum. On page 21 there's a thread titled "late war Totenkopf by Assmann". It looks like Carlson1982 had sold a member here a couple very nice pieces, one being a late war Assmann and the other I can't figure out. Ive looked at it for quite a while and even asked Aldo to have a looksy. It sure looks like it says M1/53 on the reverse, which doesn't make sense.. Im stumped here, hopefully Sid will jump in and shine some light on this.

In your pic you can kind of see its a 2, it almost looks like an 8 though. I donno, I'm convinced the pic in question ends in a 3? I donno, maybe they had issues with the die? I have no idea

That one did it, on my screen it still looked like an 8 till you zoom in on it, then I can see the 2. My old eyes aren't what they use to be.. thank you sir
