You will not find real SS cap insignia at a Flea Market.
Or should I say 99.9 of SS for sale by non-dealers is fake.
You should use your money for books before collecting SS.

    what books would you recommend?

PS: recently I found an original class II iron cross at a flea market

If you're just starting out in militaria collecting, it's best to avoid SS stuff altogether. As stated above, it's heavily faked, and many of the fakes have reached a level where even experts in the field struggle to authenticate them. Not to put you off, but it isn't a collecting field to wander into lightly. It's better to start off in a field that is much less faked, less expensive, and less of a risk to your bank account should you end up purchasing a fake.

Saying that, if you are determined to collect SS, you should purchase from a reputable dealer with a good returns policy, and post any prospective purchases here on the forum before parting with your cash.

As said above, SS militaria is an absolute minefield especially for new collectors. If you really want something SS in particular, such as cap insignia, you should definitely stick to trustworthy dealer sites in my honest opinion. Chances are you'll never be able to find any (original) examples of just that particular thing at the flea market.

I do want to mention that there are some books out there for the collector that show fakes as being real / authentic. Better to first start looking up older posts here on the forum and read, watch, read and watch authentic pieces.. I've been doing that for some time now and this is the best knowledge you can get! There are some posts on here that show the good books from the bad!
