Alte Kampfer or Gefreiter?

Came across this one and after quick search through past threads I think I know the answer but would appreciate any opinions on the one below (asking about the treese itself, not the twill made backing of course). No measurements known at this time unfortunately.

Gefreiter stripe for drill tunic, so it is army not SS.

Apparently the SS did not use this style of tresse (braid) but as with all things German, they probably used it if they had it.
