    HI all,
I came across this photo - a reproduction of an original being sold on THAT marketplace ...... but what struck me is that I couldn't place the pattern of the smocks.

The helmet covers seem to be plane Tree (Platanenmuster) and the soldier in the foreground wears a smock that could be Palm Tree pattern (Palmenmuster)

But the guy in the middle ....? that one has thrown me - I just cant pick it? ... any ideas?

supposed to be 3rd Division 'Totenkopf' in Russia,1943

I would agree with palm tree pattern, I’m far from an expert but that’s the only thing I could see it being, but I may be wrong.

    Thanks Bodhi!
Yes the "Duck" has a couple of these - this one is a different print again.

Spectacularly Rare, German Model 38 SS Smock in Palm Tree Camouflage – The Ruptured Duck, LLC

But neither have that same pattern he has along his arm .... that's the bit I cant identify? ( almost like a Liebermuster splodge )

I’m still looking about, I only say palm tree because it’s the only one I see that has straight lines. I was also going to say Liebermuster too but the only example I have seen was a tunic not smock, and I don’t see any straight lines on that pattern either.

    I’m stumped so far.

And if this really is the 3rd SS in Russia in the Summer of 1943, then way too early for Leibermuster pattern anyway ......

Of course it can’t be Leibermuster, duh forgot about the date.

I still think is Palm Tree just with a strange print or maybe some kind of error. The one bill has seem to has a similar pattern just much thicker. Anyway I’m sure some with much more expertise will come along and help.

    Thanks all!
The examples shown are close but none match the strange pattern on the soldiers sleeve.. like a fish spine.
