I have just aquired this It was listed as SA am i correct in thinking it is ss.
From info i have to hand it possibly is 8th standarten Paderborn west.
I have had a hard time finding similar examples on the net to compare with.I found something similar in bullion with no piping i also found machine embroidered with black and silver piping. But couldn't find any examples with white piping as in the tab i have posted.
Any opinions will be very much appreciated.
    Cheers
    Dave.

Thanks Glenn Is this why it is piped white rather than black & silver?.

The SS was reorganized mid to late 1934, whereupon the white collar patch piping for lower grades was phased out, and a white cotton and black piping introduced, which, in turn was replaced by the alu and black piping in 1937. early Allgemeine cavalry tab
Your tab is very rare and valuable, and whoever mis labeled it as SA is a dunce. All the better for us.
Those serious about such things should look carefully at this image, as it is significant.
As the SSVT and SSTV were built up, these specialist units of the Allgemeine SS were reduced in force, making them more rare.

Reiter Sta. 8 in 1938 or so was HQd in Paderborn. This badge is earlier.

Maybe Bob Coleman can help with this?

I have some images of late SS Reiterei black uniforms......

I am happy that I own this, a man who likely was an SS mounted personage and oversaw such units. early Allgemeine cavalry tab

Thanks for posting all the images Friedrich. The tab came with a SA tab just like the example you posted I will take a picture of it.It's burgundy in colour with chain stitched 3/66.
I'm not very familiar with allgemeine insignia before taking the plung on the pair i did study the threads of Delich's superb collection Comparing the number eight to tabs from his collection with number eight on them.
It's nice to know i have not made a mistake in buying it,and that it is indeed quite a early rare example.
    Cheers

Thanks. Adrian Stevenson has made a site of merit, attracted good material and generous personages, and here is an example of the general good that arises from such a conjuncture. Do compare the response here
with that of the other site for the facts of the matter.
