Never heard of an M4. I agree - looks authentic. What makes it textbook SS? And was it shortened or were they made that way? NH
The way the bottom of the lining meets the wool. Only seen on a late war M43 SS. The 5 button construction, also only seen on an SS issue tunic (Heer is 6 button) on tunics post M40. The 2 hole belt provisions, heer is 3 hole.
A candidate for restoration? NH
I like the look just as it is. Evokes 1946 when thousands of men wearing worn torn tunics like this were trying to get home and find any work available.
Don't forget about the HBT collar underside as well - an SS trait.
